Top channel executives confirm XXL attendance Monday, 17 November 2008
DISTREE XXL 2009 looks set to attract a record turnout of top EMEA channel executives from both the vendor and distributor community. Ingram reveals third quarter figures Tuesday, 28 October 2008
Ingram Micro has announced global sales of US$8.28 billion for the third quarter ending September 27th 2008. Revenues were down 4% year-on-year from US$8.61 billion. Profits dropped 36% year-on-year to US$46.4m. EMEA third quarter sales were down 10% to US$2.86 billion despite the relative strength of European currencies causing an approximate 7% positive impact on year-to-year comparisons. Asbis opens online marketplace in Turkey Tuesday, 28 October 2008
Emerging markets distribution outfit Asbis has whipped the covers off its new online marketplace for customers in Turkey. The dedicated business-to-business e-commerce site will offer resellers a product catalogue and the ability to reserve products, place orders and track deliveries. Investcorp injects US$98m into Redington Gulf Tuesday, 14 October 2008
Asset management firm Investcorp has agreed a US$98m investment in Middle East and Africa distribution giant Redington Gulf. The deal will make Investcorp a minority shareholder in Redington with a 36% stake, according to Redington India - the parent company of Redington Gulf. The deal values Redington Gulf at US$272m. Brightpoint bags Nokia in UK and Samsung in South Africa Tuesday, 14 October 2008
Brightpoint UK has been named as a distributor in the UK market by mobile phone giant Nokia. Under the terms of the agreement, Brightpoint GB – the UK subsidiary of the mobile channel giant – will provide Nokia with distribution services for handsets, enhancements, software and services to business, enterprise and prosumer (high value consumer) markets within the UK. ICIDU has confirmed the appointment of Exit40 as its official master distributor for the UAE and wider Middle East region. ICIDU bills itself as a provider of IT accessories, which are sold through innovative retail concepts. Iomega has named Jan Jensen as VP sales in EMEA. In his new role Jensen will lead Imoega’s business efforts in Europe and new business development across EMEA to spearhead the vendor’s geographic expansion. Microsoft extends Comztek rights Monday, 6 October 2008
Microsoft has extended Comztek’s distribution rights for finished goods in Southern Africa. The distributor will now cover Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Namibia and Zambia, while its existing South African distribution rights remain unaffected. Comztek’s Microsoft distribution rights for finished goods and OEM in East Africa, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Rwanda, have also been renewed. Digital Technologies has been named as a strategic distribution partner for LG Electronics in Lebanon. Under the terms of the agreement LG will use Digital as a channel to market for its latest smart mobile phones. Digital will hold distribution rights for the full range of LG GSM products in Lebanon. Mindware sets up in Saudi Thursday, 2 October 2008
Middle East distribution powerhouse Mindware has opened an office in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Mindware, citing recent research, claims that the Saudi IT market will hit US$3.8 billion per annum by 2010, and the company wants a slice of the action. Components giant AMD has strengthened its distribution channel in Egypt, signing up EMAK, part of MAK Holding for Industry. UAE retailer Sharaf DG has launched a technology services division called DG Help. The new service will allow consumers in the UAE to dial a toll free number for a free check-up of their PCs, laptops, wireless connections or home theatre systems, irrespective of whether the kit was purchased at Sharaf DG.
